Star didn't want to watch. But she had to. Dunmharu was making her. Bracken just punch me in the face or something!! Star begged him, although she knew it would hurt her and not Dunmharu. She knew her body would stagger back. She just couldn't bare to watch Bracken in pain any longer

Leon winced when the words left Doug's mouth. Uh, I think you should take those pills... He forced a small smile, trying to seem non-threatening, but it wasn't like he could make his ears or tail go away. "Yeah...I'm sorry if I scared you...sometimes that just happens. I don't ever hurt anyone, though," he added quickly, which was partially a lie.

"LOUIS!" Doug shouted, his face bristling with anger and frustration. Louis cowered, looking as though he was about to be beaten. Doug reached into his pants pocket and pulled out an orange bottle of pills, shaking it like a rattle from his nervousness. Louis immediately sprung into action, grabbing on to Doug's wrist. "Stop! No!" he shouted, forcing the bottle open and sending dozens white tablets to the ground. Doug threw himself on the floor, getting a couple of the pills into his shaky lips. Louis went for his mouth, but Doug held him away. Doug, you said you wouldn't do this anymore! Doug, you lied to me! Louis shouted, but the voice was getting quieter as the medicine did it's work.
Bracken couldn't do it. He couldn't pull himself do to something like this. For physical, and emotional reasons. He was practically entirely disabled by the dark energy creeping through his body, and he also just couldn't pull himself to hurt Star. He had promised her, the day that he had met her. He remembered her walking out to him, not knowing who he was, and asking if he was dangerous. And he responded 'no, I would never hurt you,'. A nostalgic smile covered his pained face, memories of all the progress he had made, all the help he had given flooded his mind. I love you, Star, he thought to her as he felt himself getting weaker.
(( Yes, I actually have the lines copied down from when they first met. XD ))

Although the smirk remained on Star's face, a single crystal tear tripped down her cheek. Bracken! Star called out her voice cracking as if she was crying Dunmharu! I'll do anything! Just let him live! Star begged Dunmharu's brow raised curiousity. Anything? He asked with an evil smile. Anything! Star confirmed knowing what he must have in mind. The shadows slowed to a stop even though they didn't disappear, so they still burned Bracken Than I want you to allow me to access all of those extra power you have stored up Dunmharu said

Leon watched this play out with twisted fascination that he knew he shouldn't have. The man was clearly troubled, but the way it looked as though the puppet was alive and fighting him was very interesting, in a sick way. Should I do something...? He decided that the pills would do most of the work for him, but just in case he remained alert for any sudden changes or movement, as Doug could easily jump out the window if he wanted to.

Doug was breathing heavily, Louis slowly stopped fighting. He sighed, sitting up and scooping all the fallen pills back into the orange bottle. He sealed the cap and put it back into his pocket. "I'm s-sorry you had to see that," he said in a surprisingly sane manner. "God dammit I'm so broken," he muttered quietly, burying his face in his hands.
Bracken wanted to shout back, but the pain was too much. He was still just letting out strangled screams. Star, no! Don't do it, he begged her. If he lets me live he'll just kill me anyway, he pointed out, his voice seeming calm. While Bracken was fighting on the outside, his inside seemed to be coming to terms with what was going on. His mind traced back to all his favorite, most wonderful moments; Hugging Star for the first time on that dreary night in the chasm, meeting Viper and becoming her best friend... These thoughts came and went, and he felt a strange contentness. Star, don't give him your power. You have to keep fighting. You have to let me go.

What if it doesn't work! What if I'm to weak to fight back! Star said, her heart racing with fear of losing Bracken. The shadows slowly began to spread again Star, his time is almost up. Tick-tock. Dunmharu growled impatiently

Bracken knew his time was coming at an end, but he was content. Star, I know you. You're strong, and I believe that you can fight, he thought back to her, not caring whether or not he sounded really sappy. He was dying, so he didn't really care. You have to let me go. Focus on everyone else. Think about Octroven. You can't give up your power, he insisted. They were surprisingly clear thoughts for how loud and pained Bracken was actually screaming.

Star's voice had completely disappear, yet the shadows continued to consume Bracken. Suddenly, however, they froze. And began to fade. Dunmharu's hand trembled and Star's eyes flickered from a near black to a lighter dark green. Dunmharu let out a beast like roar of pain, Star's own voice could be heard screaming out in agony as well. Star crumbled to her knees, the shadows completely gone from Bracken's skin. Star and Dunmharu continued to call out in pain, and their body trembling intensely with great agony. You foolish girl! Do you have any idea what your doing! Dunmharu roared Yes! I know exactly what I'm doing! Star snapped back her voice lapsing with pain.

The hybrid stared at the man blankly for a while, not quite understanding how the medication had worked so quickly. Well...huh. He didn't even want to try to figure it out. Instead he took the chance while it was available and crawled over to the man on his knees, his tail down and his ears lowered warily. Soon he was kneeling only a foot or so away from him. "Um...are you okay now?" he asked rather timidly. "I mean, better than before?" He's obviously not okay, idiot.

Bracken looked down, all of his reminiscing crashing down around him. "Star, no!" he shouted, bending over and putting his hand on her shoulder. He didn't want her to go through this pain, but she was doing it to herself anyway.

Doug took a deep breath. He could still hear Louis, deep in the background of his mind, but it wasn't anything demanding. "Yes, I'm fine," he growled. "I'm just a thirty year old man with a sock puppet on my hand, of course I'm fine," he spat, glaring at Leon. He shook himself, rubbing his messy hair with frustration. "Sorry about that," he muttered.
