Bracken gave her a quick peck on the cheek before rolling over onto the pebbly shore. "Star, I don't want you to leave again," he whimpered. He knew all if this had been for naught, the beast was still going to target him over everyone else.

"Well yeah, I know that... But why..." Bracken sighed. A very small fraction of him wished he had never ran into Cobra in the first place, but the rest of him doused the thought. He knew that his life was significantly happier now that he had all these people and events in his life, however painful. It would be better than having that Rat man be his first human to meet.
