Welcome to the year 2016. The zombie virus has already infected all who are not immune in the course of a single year, and it's been another year since then. 95% of the worldwide human population has become infected. 4.9% of the immune been killed by the infected. .1% are still trying to survive. You are that .1 percent.
New York is by no means lost. While wandering zombies still dot the streets, some survivors fight to take it back. Most simply fight to survive.
(Which you don't need to read if you don't want to. Just know that noise = Angry zombies)
1. Silence- Examples: empty city ambiance, a rushing stream, birds chirping, hushed voices, a gunshot from a mile away, wandering zombie shambling.
2. Soft- Examples: calm footsteps, quiet talking voice, dropping a rock on the ground, a gunshot from half a mile away, driving a car at a crawling speed, slow zombie shambling.
3. Medium- Examples: running footsteps, normal talking voice, a gunshot from a quarter of a mile away, driving a car at a normal speed, brisk zombie shambling.
4. Loud- Examples: Sprinting footsteps, yelling or shouting voice, a nearby gunshot, an explosion, an oil drum impacting on cement, driving a car at a fast speed, sprinting zombie shambling.
-Stages of Aggression-
(Note: You aren't necessarily expected to read all of this. Just know that if you ever side RP a zombie then these rules apply)
1. Dead: When a zombie is dead, then it will make no attempts to attack, and will not be able to progress to the other stages of aggression.
Sounds- Silence: Dead. Soft: Dead. Medium: Dead. Loud: Dead.
2. Apathetic: A zombie in the apathetic zone will typically appear as though they are sleeping or dead, but they can still go up to the next stages, which gives them a dangerous element of surprise.
Sounds- Silence: Apathetic. Soft: disinterested. Medium: interested. Loud: interested.
3. Disinterested: A disinterested zombie will usually be on their feet or sitting down, sometimes mumbling incoherently to itself. If a survivor were to silently walk near one, the zombie would be completely docile. However, if the zombie hears a loud noise or a voice of any kind, it will immediately ascend to the next stages. Most zombies are in the disinterested stage.
Sounds- Silence: Disinterested/Apathetic. Soft: Disinterested. Medium: Alert. Loud: Aggressive.
4. Interested: A zombie becomes interested once it hears any abnormal noise, such as a voice talking or a distant gunshot. An interested zombie will begin to shamble slowly towards the source of the noise, but will not try to attack.
Sounds- Silence: Disinterested. Soft: Interested. Medium: Alert. Loud: Aggressive.
5. Alert: An alert zombie has sensed a survivor, usually by sight or sound. These zombies will shamble at a brisk pace, and will start to attempt to bite or claw at it's targeted survivor. Once a zombie becomes alerted toward an individual target, it is very difficult to get it to stop following.
Sounds- Silence: Interested. Soft: Alert. Medium: Aggressive. Loud: Aggressive.
6. Aggressive: Once a zombie becomes aggressive, they will travel at a sprinting pace and will attack violently. At this stage, a zombie's agility will be greatly increased, allowing it to climb over tall objects such as fences, trucks, and in some cases even the sides of buildings. Once a zombie is in this stage, there is no way for it to revert to the previous stages unless it is killed.
Sounds- Silence: Aggressive. Soft: Aggressive. Medium: Aggressive. Loud: Aggressive.
Why stay in New York? There has been a long running rumor that there was a laboratory that created a cure for the zombie virus, and according to the story it's located at New York. Another reason for New York is because there are lots of buildings and corner stores, meaning that there is a lot of supplies to scavenge. Survivors that have resorted to the bandit life are aware that people are drawn to the city, so they go as well in hopes of having good hunting.
(Remember: Electricity does NOT work, without the use of a generator! But generators are loud and attract zombies, and require precious fuel to run.)
What does a survivor use as a weapon? Anything. Found a stick? Beat a zombie with it. Since the infection has been around for about a year now, most survivors have something more effective than a simple stick. While it would seem that guns are the best option, it is not the case. Sure, guns can easily get the job done, but they make loud noises which attract zombies from all over. While a gun is good to have as a backup, a survivor might want to look into a melee weapon such as an axe, a golf club, a baseball bat, ect. But everything depends on a survivor's location, lifestyle, and emotional stability. If a survivor lived in the massive woods, they wouldn't have to worry about the noise of guns quite as much because in a forest there are less zombies. A bandit might want to use a gun because it can take down fellow humans in a single shot, then he can loot their corpse and get out of the area before zombies arrive. Someone who can't handle any kind of blood might want to consider using no weapon at all, and simply run from zombies or barricade themselves.
Where does a survivor sleep at night? Anywhere. On the roof of a building? Take a nap. Of course, everything depends on location and situation. If you are in the forest you might want to think twice about making a fire for the night because zombies can see in the dark. If you're sleeping in the city you might want to make sure you don't have a snoring problem. Again, there are different methods of survival. Some people move campsites every day to make sure that they don't run the risk of having their place becoming too popular among zombies. While this is a good option, it's also dangerous because you have to carry all of your things with you, and not only does that make you more tired, but it also makes you a target for bandits. Others have a fortified main base that they return to every night, such as a gas station or an apartment. While this is also a good idea, you have to worry about zombies following you home and scavengers stealing your things. Are you losing touch with humanity? Why not try becoming a bandit yourself! You don't even need to think about it; Find someone, pull the trigger, take the rewards, and get out of there without a second thought! Another option is to collect as much food and water as possible, then barricade yourself up in a room. This can be good and bad for multiple reasons: Sure, zombies can't get in, and sure, it would be hard for bandits to discover you, but it would definitely take a toll on your mental state, which could cause you to go insane and maybe even kill yourself. But of course, all of these options depend on the lifestyle of the survivor.
What does a survivor do? See that can of food? Eat it. Is that a pack of batteries? Take it. That zombie's in your way? Kill it. Most survivors have taken to scavenging around the cities, collecting treasures that didn't matter before the apocalypse that are really important now, such as food, water, blankets, flashlights, ect. Sure, it has been a year since the infection and a lot of stuff has been scavenged already, and the things that are still there are probably well past their expiration date, I'm sure salmonella isn't that bad. Of course, not all survivors have taken to the scavenging approach. A few survivors have made and maintained large farms, providing a good source of food. While this is a very good idea when it comes to supplies, it can also be dangerous because it makes you a target for bandits. It's tough to hide an acre of land.

--About the RP (Please read before you run away!)--
So I've always wanted to do a zombie survival RP, but I knew that I would never be allowed to do such a thing on the old forums. Before you look at this RP and say "Oh, too much reading!" or "I don't like zombies so this RP will suck," I implore you to stay for just a little while and hear me out.
First of all, I wrote all this stuff this morning because my internet was out and I was bored. I was using the stupid notepad program on my laptop, which doesn't have defined sides, so I couldn't really tell how much I was writing. I didn't think I wrote this much. But, since I'm such a nice guy, I went through and grayed out everything but the stuff that you'll really want to know. I mean, the other gray stuff would be good to know too, but it's not 100% necessary.
Second, this RP isn't about zombies. It's about surviving the zombies. The stuff I mainly want to focus on with this RP is the falling of humanity; people driven to the brink of insanity and hopelessness from knowing that there will always be more zombies, and the arguments that will ensue. Kind of like the Walking Dead.
Sorry for giving you more stuff to read, I just hope this RP gets a good chance!
--About the Virus--
The zombie virus (Z-Virus for short) is spread similar to that of rabies. It can be spread by a bite, the mixing of blood, and in airborne circumstances in some cases. Most of the survivors are naturally immune to the virus, and can not be infected. Some are not immune, but have resisted being bitten. When one becomes infected, the first noticeable change would be the color of their skin. Their pigment turns grey, giving them a pale appearance. After the first hour, their eyes will turn white and begin to glow. After the second hour, the virus will begin attempts to take over the brain. For this hour, the victim will still be able to talk, but their mind would slowly unravel for the duration of an hour. After the third hour the virus will have completely taken them, and they begin at stage 4 of aggression. It is rumored that some scientists developed an antidote for the virus that can save someone who was bitten within the first or second hour, but the location of the laboratory is unknown. Apparently it's somewhere in New York, however.--About the Zombies--
The zombies appear as normal people, except for their grey skin, glowing white eyes, and occasional gore around the mouth or on their hands. Zombies are NOT dead; they are simply under new management. Because of this, a zombie can be killed by the same things that would kill a human, but to a lesser extent; loss of blood, losing of limbs, blunt force trauma, ect. For example, chopping off the arm of a zombie wouldn't kill it, but if you chopped off two then it probably would. The Z-Virus controls their brain, taking energy from their eyes and nose and putting it into their ears. Zombies are blind in the mornings, but they can hear quite effectively. At night a zombie is able to see about 20 feet, making night time travel very dangerous. Zombies have six stages of aggression (Shown below). A zombie changes aggression depending on the volume of the sound it hears. Here's a quick sound list:(Which you don't need to read if you don't want to. Just know that noise = Angry zombies)
1. Silence- Examples: empty city ambiance, a rushing stream, birds chirping, hushed voices, a gunshot from a mile away, wandering zombie shambling.

--About the Area--
This RP takes place around the edge of New York, meaning there is lots of tall buildings on one half of the map, then shorter buildings on the other. There are a few parks around the city area. Throughout the city is a network of roads that are spotted with cars. The majority of the cars are either out of gas, have an empty battery, or broken from lack of use, so testing them out could be a risk. There is a main street, wide and lined with many buildings. One of the buildings is a hospital which still hasn't been completely scavenged, which makes it a very important landmark. However, Bandits are aware that people will need to get medical supplies, so one must be cautious when going to the hospital, for someone might be waiting for them. Scattered around the city are various attempts of quarantine, such as random portable fences blocking off certain portions of the road and canvas tents with some supplies left over. There is also a large, thick forest down south full of torn up roads, an occasional field, sometimes a farm or two, and dotted with abandoned gas stations. Ever since the infection, gasoline and batteries have practically become a commodity, and if a survivor is lucky, they might be able to find a sufficient amount of gas as well as a working vehicle. Ever since the infections, with the workers of the power companies dead, all electricity has gone out unless provided by generator. Only issue is, generators tend to be loud. So having a car might be your best option, considering it can travel long distances, provide sufficient heating and cooling, and even be used as a sleeping spot if needed. Batteries are especially important, considering they can be used for so many things such as electric blankets, GPS, walkie talkies, and flashlights. Most of the corner and grocery stores in the area have already been stripped clean, but the other buildings in the city still have valuable things in them. Why stay in New York? There has been a long running rumor that there was a laboratory that created a cure for the zombie virus, and according to the story it's located at New York. Another reason for New York is because there are lots of buildings and corner stores, meaning that there is a lot of supplies to scavenge. (Remember: Electricity does NOT work, without the use of a generator! But generators are loud and attract zombies, and require precious fuel to run.)
--About the Survivors--
A survivor is either immune or simply too resilient to allow himself to be bitten. Someone who is not immune will have a much tougher time with the apocalypse, given that they could still become infected. Ever since the infection, the laws of humanity have only become a mere guideline, meaning that there are many survivors who would be willing to kill another survivor only to loot their corpse afterwards. In other situations a survivor might track someone down to their camp and steal their supplies while they're asleep. While not all survivors and necessarily bandits, no human is to be immediately trusted. It is ingrained in human instinct to prolong your own life for as long as possible, and many survivors are acting on such an instinct. Some survivors work together in groups, which is both a benefit and a defecit. In a group there are more mouths to feed, but you have more people to scavenge with. What does a survivor use as a weapon? Anything. Found a stick? Beat a zombie with it. Since the infection has been around for about a year now, most survivors have something more effective than a simple stick. While it would seem that guns are the best option, it is not the case. -- Character Form --
So how this will work is everyone will play as characters. For the zombies, everyone will just kind of roleplay the zombies around them. I don't want to waste time by having everyone create a form for every single zombie.
And here's the character form!
Just copy and paste the form below and fill it out. Make sure you delete all the things in the parenthesis. And here's the character form!
